Le Mans GT Brakes – Callaway C16

Bred at Le Mans

Our Le Mans experience has taught us about the security that comes from a brake system with a lot of headroom. The Callaway C16′s “Le Mans GT” Brake System was designed to make sure that the vehicle’s stopping ability matches its newfound speed. We have carefully developed the right piston layout, disc material, disc attachment method and pad material to come up with a tireless brake package that stops the car extremely well, time and time again, with fine modulation and great pedal feel.

Advanced Rotor Technology - Le Mans GT rotors are slotted to evacuate dust and gases for maximum pad contact, while avoiding the cracking prevalent in drilled rotors. Their 380 mm (front) and 355 mm (rear) diameters provide additional surface area and their increased mass provides greater capacity to absorb heat. Patented internal cooling vanes provide up to 80% more airflow than stock rotors for increased heat dissipation. Anodized aluminum hats serve to reduce overall rotor weight.

Light Yet Strong - Six-piston front and four-piston rear caliper design provides increased clamping force while differential piston sizes minimize pad taper. Computer-aided finite element analysis was utilized to design caliper forgings with exceptional stiffness. A patented, bolt-in bridge further provides rigidity, virtually eliminating any distortion. Contour-machining processes remove excess material to minimize mass and unsprung weight. A hard-coat anodized finish resists corrosion, extending durability and maintaining as-new appearance. Callaway installation includes pad/rotor bed-in procedure.

Exemplary Braking Performance - The results are shorter stopping distances, optimum front-to-rear brake bias, extended pad and rotor life, and firmer pedal feel with practically zero fade. You’ll recognize the power of this braking performance the first time you step on the brake pedal.

Standard on Callaway C16, available at extra cost for Callaway Corvette, Callaway Camaro and Callaway SportTrucks.

“Brake hard—repeatedly—and you get carrier-landing deceleration accompanied by whiff of pad,
but not one iota of fade or pedal softness. ”

Carbon Ceramic Option

Now, the latest technology in super high performance braking is available from Callaway: Carbon Ceramic.

This development reflects what has been standard in F1 for several years. The benefits are numerous and beyond just extraordinary braking performance. Each Carbon Ceramic rotor weighs 10 lbs less that the iron rotor it replaces and yet is bigger in diameter and width (380mm x 32mm fronts, requires 19″ wheels, min.). This degree of unsprung weight reduction has never before been possible. The physics of this advancement mean that every move that the suspension makes is less encumbered by mass. The wheel assembly is now easier to control; damping is more effective. The wheel/brake assembly can accelerate faster rotationally, and of course decelerate faster, too. These dynamic maneuvers are very feelable. The driver gets it, right away. All this, plus a further 40 pound weight reduction in the overall vehicle . . . remarkable.

Optional on Callaway C16.

“Driving the car with the carbon ceramic brakes is like putting on your sneakers after a long day in business shoes.”
