What follows is a detailed look at how to configure a Callaway C16. 

We believe a Callaway C16 represents everything we know about how to make a great road car. We suggest that there is one configuration that makes this statement. Therefore, we offer the automobile in one configuration - fully, and correctly done. In other words, when an potential owner asks us, personally, how would we build a car for ourselves, here is the answer:

Choose a configuration: Coupe, Convertible, or Speedster

Manual 6 speed gearbox (preferred) - Standard

Automatic 6 speed paddle shift - Optional

Supercharged to the 650 bhp level - Standard

Equipped with the Callaway C16 body, in your color choice

The complete 'Deutschleder' interior, again, in your leather choice - Standard

Once you have selected the above configuration, there are really only two options, if you take our suggestions:

Callaway Sport Seats (a snug, but great, seat for the best car control)

Callaway Carbon Ceramic brakes save another 10 lbs per corner of unsprung weight

    • Callaway C16s are either Cabrio (Convertible) or Coupe or Speedster, 6 speed manual. Alternatively, you can specify the paddle-shift automatic transmission for an additional $1200
    • The Callaway C16 is a direct competitor for the Porsche GT3, the Lamborghini Murcielago, the Ferrari 599 GTB.
    • It is both faster and more capable than its competitors, at less cost.
    • The easy way to make this decision is to visit our factories and test drive the Callaway C16.

Callaway C16 Body - Standard Equipment on C16

 

The Callaway C16 Body replaces every panel of the standard C6 body with the exception of the roof panel and the rear hatch. The Callaway approach uses the standard attachment points as its datum, preserving the standard cut lines of door, hood, and rear hatch openings.  The panels are made of high grade glass fiber with a class A gel-coat painting surface.  They are designed to be refinished with either the standard GM top coat materials or any of the Callaway specified paint colors.

Re-used from the standard car are the headlight projectors, the turn indicators, the side lights and one set of the tail lights.

New headlight lenses and inner reflectors are supplied.

Door handles and door handle cutouts are eliminated and a unique keyless entry system, the D Spot, is introduced. The GM fob is retained. However, the door pops open when you pass your hand over a particular area of the rear fender, just behind the door. A fail-safe mode is also retained in case of a flat battery.

A Soft flannel car cover is included - custom fitted to the C16 shape.


650 bhp Supercharged 6.2 liter V8 Engine - Standard Equipment on C16

  • Upgraded fuel system with high flow injectors
  • Callaway Honker high flow air inlet system

The Callaway C16 is powered by the Corvette's 6.2L LS3 engine, enhanced by Callaway's Magna Charger supercharger system. The Roots-style TVS supercharger provides substantial power increase (220 bhp), while internals manufactured by Eaton, the world's leading OEM supercharger supplier, ensure bulletproof reliability. Callaway's electronic engine management calibration provides perfect street manners, eliminating engine-damaging detonation and maintaining excellent fuel economy. Magna Charger's unique intercooler design, built into the manifold base, significantly lowers charge air temperature to increase power (patent pending). During low-load cruising conditions, the supercharger's internal bypass allows the rotors to spin freely, reducing parasitic drag to less than one-third of one horsepower.

  • Increased volume engine oil pump
  • Cylinder block preparation, including honing for new pistons and file-fit rings
  • Advanced valve seat machining and expert cylinder head setup assembly
 

650 bhp elevates the C16 to another level of performance. No off-the-shelf "tuner" parts here, this package has been developed by Callaway engineers applying our established high power, sophisticated approach, extended durability combination. To accommodate the TVS supercharger's elevated manifold pressure, engine internals have to be upgraded. High strength forged pistons, built for Callaway by Mahle, replace GM's cast pistons. The LS3 cylinder bores are honed in Callaway's state-of-the-art engine shop to precise piston-to-wall clearance specifications. Callaway-proprietary piston rings are file-fit for accurate end gap and perfect sealing. Oliver forged connecting rods replace the LS3's powdered metal rods, and are longer than stock for improved combustion and more power. The proprietary camshaft profile is specifically designed for this supercharged application, with abundant mid-range torque and excellent high RPM power and without the radical idle and poor low-end torque of other cams. Callaway-proprietary valve springs eliminate valve float and spring breakage at high RPM while avoiding excessive spring pressures that can sap power and reduce service life. A high volume oil pump ensures proper lubrication under the most severe conditions.

Extreme performance needs extreme braking ability.  In keeping with enviable acceleration and top speed,  braking ability is enhanced with the same package that the Callaway cars use at Le Mans.  Only the brake pad material spec differs for road use.

Callaway and Eibach have jointly developed the ultimate suspension upgrade for the C5/C6 platform.  Our primary objective was: Give the driver a tool to transform the ride of the automobile to his/her taste.

The elements that are now adjustable with the Callaway Eibach system are: ride height, pitch attitude, cross- weighting of the entire car, and of course ride frequency in both rebound and compression.  With all these adjustment options we look to satisfy the driver who will tailor his ride and handling to their local conditions whether that be road or track, high speed or around town, autocross or cross country. Of course, we have good starting point suggestions for each of those uses. Once in place, you are encouraged to experiment.

The Dymag CMA (Carbon/Magnesium/Aluminum) Wheels are a remarkable piece of technology. A full carbon fiber rim joined mechanically to a magnesium/aluminum alloy spider makes this combination the lightest road wheel available. For example, the 20" diameter x 12" wide wheels weighs 18.2 lbs.  This unsprung weight is approximately 60% of the equivalent aluminum wheel. Accommodates GM tire pressure warning system transmitter.
